The covid pandemic took a toll on the whole world. But in the last few months, everything is getting back to normal after a hideous year. As the merriness of life is slowly coming back, Cannes Film Festival waited no longer. The legendary movie gala was first scheduled on May 11 to 22, 2021 but due to the pandemic, it was postponed to July 6 to 17, 2021. The invitation-only festival is celebrating its 74th ceremony in 2021.
Indians have been looking forward to this gala every year since Indian celebrities made an entrance. The Bollywood VIPs like Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai, Katrina Kaif, Huma Qureshi, and Diana Penty were a constant show in the last few years’ Cannes. But last year, Cannes was also rich with the presence of Indian social media fashion influencers like Massom Minawala, Kusha Kapila, Bhuvan Bam, and Diipa Büller-Khosla. But this year, many other Indian fashion influencers stole the show with their head-turner looks on the red carpet. Massom Minawala, Diipa Koshla, Farhana Bodi, and Nidhi Sunil made it to the headlines by walking the red carpet this year.
Diipa Koshla is the first Indian fashion blogger to walk on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Cannes Film Festival 2021 is her third film gala in a row. On her first red carpet at Cannes Film Festival 2021 she embraced and exhibited the Indian girl inside her with a lehenga paired with an off-shoulder blouse. The statement was completed with a maang tika necklace. Diipa’s outstanding and breath-taking outfit was the magic of Falguni Shane Peacock.
Diipa posted on Instagram about her fusion lehenga, “NAMASTE CANNES!!! What did you think? I’d be attending the Cannes Film Festival in anything other than Indian outfit first?” That’s the little Indian girl inside who dared to dream speaking.
Diipa Koshla surprised her fans with her second attire at this years’ Cannes Film Festival. The yellow elegant off-shoulder couture gown was mainly to introduce the Dior bag. But that was not it. With that attire, she showed the importance and purity of motherhood by posting a series of photos of wearing breast pumps with her gorgeous gown. The ruffled gown was by Tony Ward. No makeup look and simple diamond hoops did their job very well by drawing the attention of audiences to her beautiful gown.
Diipa Koshla being a new mother posted her photos captioning, “To me, being a mother means more than giving birth to a child. Being a mother means loving and knowing a soul before you can even see it. It’s being to dependent to someone you guide through life. Being a mother means taking responsibility for the one you’ve brought into this world, showering them with endless car and love throughout their life.”
The huge fan base of Diipa Koshla is due to the inspiring life she built against sexism, racism, and other challenges. She was ‘The Changemaker Influencer of 2019’. She describes herself as, “What makes me unique is my identity, my culture, and my beautiful skin tone.” Fans are looking forward to and hoping that she makes it to next years’ Cannes Film Festival.
Massom Minawala, an Indian fashion blogger, an influencer, an entrepreneur, and a content creator is one of the very few Indian fashion influencers who had the heavenly opportunity to reappear at the Cannes Film Festival. 2021 Cannes was the second time that she is exhibiting the elegance of Indian beauty at this prestigious film gala. This influencer was very well successful at taking Indian fashion to a global level.
At this 2021 Cannes Film Festival, Massom Minawala appeared in her dreamy shimmery desi girl version of saree by Manish Malhotra. The matching long trail sleeves and veil-look pallu together made an Indian desi statement at this global film gala. The head-turner white chiffon saree was paired with an elegant and classy pair of studs and ear cuffs. To highlight her heavenly saree, a masterpiece from the legendry Manish Malhotra, she appeared in a nude make a look with just a graceful stroke of eyeliner.
The Indian influencer posted a series of a picture from her second Cannes, captioning, “For me walking the red carpet has little to do with the fame and glamour quotient of it. I know it might be a hard to believe but its painstakingly true. For me it’s a celebration of my work… of the strength persistence… and to some level knowing that I’m one step closer to my mission of taking Indian fashion to the world…for me to have the honor to be at the world’s largest cinematic event, wearing India, being India, celebrating India.”
Nidhi Sunil, the brand ambassador of L’Oreal Paris was spotted in Cannes Film Festival 2021 and stole the spotlight. This year was her debut Cannes. She wore an ivory mini dress by Rahul Mishra. The dress was so elegant, heavenly and kind of chic at the same time due to the thousands of white leaves falling off from it. Nidhi paired her ivory elegance with diamond drop earrings and a ring. She completed her bold statement look with a pair of silver heels and a high ponytail, and a dark red lip shade, and a dark skin tone to go with it.
Nidhi Sunil posted her photos on Instagram and wrote, “I was so honored to have the opportunity to wear @rahulmishra_7 at the @festivaldecannes gala opening. One of the most incredible couturiers and also the nicest human being, always pushing for recognition of Indian artisanship and employing them under fair working conditions.”
Indian-born Dubai-based fashion influencer, Farhana Bodi also made an impression at Cannes Film Festival 2021. She, the fashion guru appeared in a yellow off-shoulder tube top and a frill skirt pulling off a sunflower look. She was always known for her feminine classy look. And this time she never disappointed her audience. She paired her yellow sunflower gown with an elegant set of diamond necklace and earrings.
Farhana posted her photos of Cannes and wrote under it, “As a woman in this wide wild world, I have had my share of challenges and struggles and somehow found the light within me to rise and shine. Growing up I always respected women who fought every battle and struggle to conquer and thrive. Today while I still face challenges and adversities, never give up and the last few days further to my humble appearances on the red carpet at the opening ceremony at Cannes Film Festival, I would like to thank every woman who had been a part of this magical moment in my life without whom I would not able to do it. When Women join forces, we thrive.”
Indian fans and followers of Cannes are looking forward for many other familiar faces in the coming years of legendary Cannes.
